Sebastian Stan gets candid about his time at Marvel.
Stan, who played Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier, in seven Marvel movies, said in a recent interview with The Stronger Podcast that the blockbuster “really helped” him grow as a person and an actor. But now, at 43, he’s looking to expand beyond comic book action.
“We have to try to offer something different,” Stan said. “And I’ve never favored one role over another. (I feel) the Marvel movies have, and will always be, until the end of time, helped me grow as a person and grow as an actor. I’ve never been one to patronize one role over another. Junior) and Scarlett (Johansson) and all the people I looked up to. ”
Stan added that he feels “lucky” that his more sophisticated work came later in life, with films like “The Apprentice” and “Different Man.” He also noted “young players like Timothée Chalamet and Austin Butler,” adding that he sees them accomplishing things “that they couldn’t do at their age.”
Stan also said that because of his Romanian heritage, it took him a while to integrate into the American film industry.
“A good portion of my youth was spent being Americanized or having to fit into society and really find my way in a different way,” he explained. “But now I feel like I can finally do what I’ve always wanted to do.”
2025 was a breakout year for Stan in terms of awards. For his leading role performance in ‘A Different Man’ he won a Golden Globe Award. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as Donald Trump in The Apprentice.
