Reba McIntyre broke down in tears over the recent death of her son-in-law Brandon Blackstock.
During Monday’s episode of “The Voice,” the country star, who is a judge on the singing competition show along with Niall Horan, Michael Bublé and Snoop Dogg, started getting emotional after contestant Aubrey Nicole performed Martina McBride’s “I’m Gonna Love You Through It.”
“I lost my first son to cancer, and he really reminded me that life goes on because cancer didn’t beat me,” McIntyre said.
McIntyre, 70, added: “The reason we sing about this is to remember the people we love so much and to be able to lean on in times like these.”
Snoop, real name Calvin Broadus Jr., then handed the three-time Grammy winner a tissue.
Mr. Blackstock passed away on August 7th after a private battle with melanoma, the most aggressive form of skin cancer. He was 48 years old.
The talent manager, who was previously married to Kelly Clarkson, “passed away peacefully at his home in Butte, Montana,” Silver Bow County Coroner Dan Hollis told People at the time.
Hollis added that Blackstock was “surrounded by family and receiving hospice care.”
Despite Blackstock’s controversial divorce from the 43-year-old American Idol winner, he stuck by his ex-girlfriend and even prioritized spending time with their children, 11-year-old daughter River and 9-year-old son Remington.
Clarkson also temporarily stepped away from his eponymous talk show and canceled some of his Las Vegas residency concerts.
Following Blackstock’s death, McIntyre posted a touching tribute to his late son-in-law on Instagram.
“Last week, my son-in-law and oldest son, Brandon Blackstock, went home to be with God. His struggle is over and he is in eternal peace with God,” she wrote, along with an image of a merry-go-round.
“There is no one like him, and I am grateful for the time we spent together. His legacy and laughter will be passed down through our family. Rest in peace, Cowboy. Until we meet again, may you have a happy journey.”
Earlier this month, the “I’m A Survivor” songstress recalled raising her “precious” Brandon while she was married to his father, Narvel Blackstock, from 1989 to 2015.
“My relationship with my stepson Brandon Blackstock was priceless,” she told People magazine. “I really loved that boy.”
Brandon was 4 years old when McIntyre started dating his father.
“Along with his mother (Elisa Gail Ritter) and father, I helped raise him along with[Navel’s other children]Shauna and Chassidy. They were my children,” the “Reba” alum continued.
“Brandon will be greatly missed and his mischievous spirit and love of life will be truly missed,” McIntyre told the outlet.
“He brought joy to everyone he met and we will never forget him,” she added.
Brandon spent his final days in Montana, where he had “ranches and rodeos” and was able to “seclude himself.”
