Keaton is an Oscar-winning actor who took home the Best Actress statuette for her role in the 1977 romantic comedy-drama Annie Hall. She is a frequent collaborator with director Nancy Meyers, appearing in films such as The First Wives Club, Father of the Bride, Something Gotta Give, Baby Boom, and the Book Club series.
Because of her roles in films such as Annie Hall, Manhattan, and Manhattan Murder Mystery, Keaton was often associated with eccentric New York City characters. However, the actress was born in Los Angeles in 1946, the daughter of a civil engineer and a housewife. She landed her first Broadway role in 1968, but it was her role as Kay Adams in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather that brought her to the spotlight.
Over the years, she has become known as a style icon, famous for her chic, black-and-white ensembles complemented by her signature playful hats and unique accessories. In Keaton’s book Fashion First, Ralph Lauren credits Keaton with designing her wardrobe on the set of Annie Hall. “I’m often credited with dressing Diane for her Oscar-winning role as Annie Hall, but that’s not true. Annie’s style was Diane’s style,” Lauren said in the foreword.
In his 2014 memoir Let’s Just Say It Wasn’t Pretty, Keaton joked, “I tell myself I’m free to do whatever I want with my body. Why wouldn’t I? I could be a caricature of my old self. I still wear wide-belted plaid coats, horn-rimmed glasses, and turtlenecks in the summer. So what? No one cares but me.”
Keaton never married, but had romantic relationships with Woody Allen, Al Pacino, and Warren Beatty throughout his life. She adopted two children. daughter Dexter in 1996 and son Duke in 2001.
