800 Pound Gorilla, a stand-up comedy production and distribution company, is getting into the streaming business with a new premium ad-free service called Gorilla Comedy+.
Launching May 5, the streamer will feature the entire 800-pound Gorilla catalog, which includes more than 250 titles, plus exclusive new specials. When the platform launches, subscribers will have first access to specials from Sal Vulcano, Emmy Brotnick, Pete Holmes, Jordain Fisher, Nish Kumar and more, as well as Patton Oswalt’s latest hour, “Tea and Scotch.”
Gorilla Comedy+ costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year in the United States, but pricing may vary by region.
“Gorilla Comedy+ is designed to give fans the ultimate stand-up experience while giving comedians a platform to have their work recognized,” said Ryan Bitzer, co-founder of 800 Pound Gorilla Media. “We designed it to complement our existing partnerships and make it easy for fans to discover and enjoy their favorite comedians.”
Co-founder Damion Greiman added, “We’re building Gorilla Comedy+ as a place where the comedy world will come together in a way that hasn’t existed before. We’ve had a lot of comics for 10 years, and it’s about helping them reach their fans and continue to create specials, series, movies, and more.”
Founded in 2016, 800 Pound Gorilla Media is an industry leader in the production, distribution, and marketing of stand-up comedy specials. With 3.1 million followers across platforms, the company says it reaches more than 20 million comedy fans each month.
The soon-to-be-released streamer is powered by Cineverse’s own platform. Ian Adkins, head of innovation and co-founder, said: “Cineverse and OTT Studio’s forward-thinking approach makes them ideal partners to bring this service to life. Great comedy requires innovative technology, and we’re thrilled to be building Gorilla Comedy+ together.”
