After doing two press tours for The Drama and Euphoria Season 3 at roughly the same time, Zendaya is taking a break from the Met Gala night spotlight. ELLE has learned that the actress will not be attending the event in New York City on Monday.
She was last photographed on Wednesday in Sherman Oaks, Calif., cheering on her partner Tom Holland at the Vero Padel Classic event.
Zendaya attended the Met Gala last year wearing an all-white Louis Vuitton suit. On the other hand, Holland has never attended a fashion event.
Zendaya recently spoke about the evolution of her style in a Vogue interview with stylist Law Roach. She began paying attention to fashion at an early age. “As a child, what my parents allowed me to do was express myself through clothes,” she recalls. “Once I got old enough to kind of decide what I wanted to wear, they let me dress myself, which was cool. So I wasn’t one of those kids who wore perfectly matching clothes to school. Starting in kindergarten, first grade, I just picked what I wanted. Cheetah Girls was a major thing, so I wore a lot of leopard print. It wasn’t cheetah print, but you couldn’t tell the difference.”
She further added, “I love seeing kids in princess dresses and rain boots. They’re just experimenting with clothes and are already starting to find their own little personalities. When I was in elementary school, I probably wore some really interesting combinations, but it’s… I think it was more about what colors I was interested in and what my obsession and confidence was at the time. That was a good thing, because it was before I really understood that people were looking at me because of my clothes. You’re being judged by what you wear. ”
She pointed out that today’s teens have more access to social media than when she was growing up. “I think YouTube was instilled in me. There was MySpace and Facebook, but it wasn’t like it is today. Thankfully, not all of my awkward outfits were documented, and there weren’t a lot of tutorials and links to help me or determine who I was,” she said. “It’s something I had to find for myself. And I think it’s really important to explore. It’s important to go through those awkward moments. It’s important to look back at what you wore as a teenager and think, ‘Oh my god, what was I thinking?'” Very few people stay chic their entire lives. It’s something that your tastes and personal preferences develop as you get older. I’ve always been able to lean into experimenting with clothes, and that’s obviously because of Law. ”
