Why Ed Harris is ‘unhappy’ with his role as ‘Dutton Ranch’

Ed Harris says he feels “underutilized” and “pissed off” for his role as Everett McKinney in Dutton Ranch.

In a scathing interview with Variety published Monday, the “frustrated” actor explained why he asked his team to “quit” him from the “Yellowstone” spinoff “in the middle” of filming season one.

“I felt a little misunderstood,” the 75-year-old, who declined to identify creator Taylor Sheridan, confessed at the premiere of Dink in Los Angeles.

“Before I signed on, there was quite a bit of talk about what the season was going to be, what my character was going to do, and me being one of the four main characters,” Harris claimed. “And that actually wasn’t the case.”

When the Oscar nominee confessed that he felt “insignificant”, his concerns were said to have been ignored.

Harris went on to reveal that “[he]was really angry.” It was a singing scene that was promised to be ultimately cut from the series.

“They didn’t show it. They said it was too much for the dark ending of that episode,” the Golden Globe winner told the outlet. “For me, that was enough reason to say ‘void the contract.’

“I was like, ‘Fuck these people,'” he continued. “That’s all I have to say.”

Harris is currently signed on for season two, which begins filming next year, but admitted that he’s been told that “[his]character has a little bit more to do” going forward.

The Emmy nominee admitted that while McKinney “played a relatively important role to the story” in the first season, which was “pretty good,” it “didn’t feel like that” during filming.

Representatives for Sheridan and Paramount did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.

Harris’ unfiltered interpretation of Season 1 comes a month after Sheridan, 57, made headlines for his rant against studio executives and critics.

“It wasn’t like this[in the industry]before, because the writers were left alone. The directors were completely left alone,” the “Landman” creator said on a June episode of “The Bill Simmons Podcast.”

“There were no endless rewrites,” Sheridan continued. “There were no meetings with executives about tone, atmosphere, or any other nonsense.”

He reportedly clashed with Paramount leadership before signing a deal with NBCUniversal last year.
