After all, Tom Hardy isn’t leaving “MobLand” behind. Variety has confirmed to sources that the actor is set to return to the Paramount+ crime drama for a possible third season.
As previously reported, Hardy had finished work on Season 2 of the series when he fell out with executive producer Jez Butterworth and 101 Studios. Production ended on season 2 in March.
Hardy and the production team reportedly met in London to discuss the issue, leading to Hardy returning to the show. Sources previously told Variety that plans were in the works to bring Hardy back to the series. Season 3 has not been officially announced at this time, but given the show’s success on the streaming platform, it’s almost guaranteed.
Variety has reached out to Paramount, 101 Studios and Hardy’s representatives for comment.
Hardy plays fixer Harry da Souza in the series. The series launched on Paramount+ last spring and quickly became the second most-watched series on the platform. Created by Ronan Bennett, “MobLand” stars Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and Paddy Considine. The film follows the Harrigan crime family led by Conrad, played by Brosnan, and his wife, Maeve (Mirren). Considine plays his son Kevin. Butterworth co-wrote the scripts for all 10 episodes with Bennett.
Mirren has been vocal in her support for Hardy and his return to the show, both on social media and in an interview with Variety magazine at the Taormina Film Festival. When asked if she would work with the actor again, she said: “Of course. Really soon.” “I love Tom. I think he’s the greatest actor. Different actors have different processes. I’ve learned over the years that some people get to things faster. As long as what’s on screen is great, I’m completely chilled by how someone gets there. Tom is a very special person. I think he’s definitely worth watching. My support for him is genuine and heartfelt.”
Deadline first reported Hardy’s return.
