Yash Raj Films and Poshyam Pa Pictures have teamed up for their first theatrical collaboration ‘Mupapa’ starring Ayushmann Khurrana and will be released on February 19, 2027.
The film, described by outfitters as “genre-bending”, is produced by YRF CEO Akshaye Widani, whose previous producer credit was Mohit Suri’s romance film Saiyaara, which became the highest-grossing romantic film in Indian film history. Mupapa will be Widani’s second outing as a producer. The film is directed by Indian showrunner and director Sameer Saxena, whose directing credits include the Netflix series Kaala Paani.
In this partnership, YRF and Posham Pa Pictures join forces, with the two companies aiming to co-create disruptive and immersive theatrical experiences for modern audiences. “Mupapa” is the first film born out of this collaboration, and it is hoped that more theatrical works will be produced together in the future.
YRF and Posham Pa first signed a partnership agreement in December 2024, at which time both companies indicated plans for the first theatrical release.
The partnership reflects YRF Chairman Aditya Chopra’s continued push to build new creative business models at the studio, with Widani spearheading efforts to expand YRF’s studio model on the production side. The studio is also expanding its reach beyond theatrical releases, including a recent strategic investment in vertical entertainment company Lusk Media.
Helmed by Khurrana, who is known for taking on unconventional projects, Mupapa will, according to YRF, “offer theatergoers an incredibly new visual experience” and “keep audiences on the edge of their seats from the get-go.”
Posham Pa Pictures partners Saxena, Biswapati Sarkar, Saurabh Khanna and Amit Golani have jointly and individually worked on many well-received titles such as Netflix’s ‘Kaala Paani’ and ‘Maamla Legal Hai’.
