Starz is developing a TV series based on Lauren Palfreyman’s popular romantic fantasy book series “The Wolf King.”
The project follows a princess named Aurora who is kidnapped by werewolves. According to the official description, she will be “caught up in a deadly love triangle” and “caught in a war between humanity and her wild captives, and forced to decide whether she will be the prize or the master of her own destiny.”
In addition to The Wolf King, which was published in 2023, Starz has two optional sequels: The Night Prince, published in 2025, and The Wolf Queen, scheduled for release in November of this year.
Tanya Saracho will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Palfreeman. Saracho is best known as the creator and showrunner of “Vida,” which aired on Starz for three seasons from 2018 to 2020.
“With the rich world that Lauren Palfreyman has created in The Wolf King and our long-standing relationship with Tanya, whose instincts for sexy, nuanced storytelling are unparalleled, we are thrilled to bring this story to life with all the passion and heart it deserves,” said Kathryn Buzbee, president of original programming at Starz.
“Returning to Starz’s hometown with ‘The Wolf King’ is a full-circle moment for me,” Saracho said. “This book has been an obsession of mine ever since I first discovered it as an indie release over a year ago, and I’ve been lovingly championing it ever since. Lauren Palfreyman’s beautiful book series is an exciting departure from the genre I’m usually familiar with, but adapting it for the network that housed ‘Vida’ for three seasons feels like destiny. I couldn’t be more happy to finally share my love for this story with the world!”
