Lionel Richie has had two upcoming concerts canceled after he became dizzy on stage and was subsequently hospitalized.
Live Nation Chicago revealed Thursday via Instagram that the 77-year-old singer will not be performing on stage in Chicago on Thursday or Columbus, Ohio, on Friday, as expected.
“Following medical advice to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed two upcoming performances,” a post posted on social media said.
The post claims that Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire, co-headliners of his “Sing a Song All Night Long” tour, will perform in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Tuesday.
“Lionel is heartbroken to have these two shows postponed and can’t wait to perform in front of his fans again,” the caption continued.
The statement concluded, “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to fans who have tickets for these two performances. The rescheduled dates will be announced soon.”
Richie has yet to publicly comment on his health concerns.
The Grammy winner was singing “Dancing on the Ceiling” on stage in St. Paul, Minn., on Wednesday night when he was forced to sit down multiple times due to dizziness.
At one point, he is said to have told the audience, “If you feel dizzy, sit your butt down.”
After Richie left the stage, the songwriter’s band played for those in attendance for 15 minutes, but it was about an hour later that saxophonist Dino Sordo announced the cancellation of the concert.
The musician explained that Richie was “not feeling well”, adding: “I don’t think he will be able to continue.”
Page Six later confirmed that the St. Paul Fire Department rushed an adult male “from the arena to a local hospital last night.”
Notably, this canceled performance marked the first day of his 26-city tour, which was scheduled to end on August 14th.
Richie spoke passionately about his upcoming performance in his latest Instagram post, telling his followers he was “grateful.”
Hours before going on stage, he wrote, “Opening night. 🚀Rehearsal. Soundcheck. Showtime tonight. 📍St. Paul, you’re awake!!!”
