Michael Pennington, who appeared in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, has passed away.
The actor died on Sunday, The Telegraph reported.
He was 82 years old.
Pennington played Death Star commander Moff Jergerrod in 1983’s Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
Other notable roles played by the British actor include Laertes in 1969’s Hamlet and Michael Foot in 2011’s The Iron Lady.
Pennington also founded the English Shakespeare Company in 1986 with theater director Michael Bogdanov to promote the works of William Shakespeare.
Although Pennington was well-received by fans, he had harsh criticism of his Star Wars character.
“Looking at it now, I think it was horribly overacted and I can’t even remember the storyline,” he said in a September 2012 interview. “We all did it for the songs, and I think that gave me kind of a calling card for movies.”
“When I came out the stage door after the performance, all people asked was ‘Star Wars,'” he continued. “Nowadays, we hear less of that and more stories about the ‘Iron Lady.'”
He married actress Katherine Barker in 1964 and they had a son, Mark, but they divorced in 1967. His partner, arts administrator Prue Skeen, died last year, according to the Telegraph.
The newspaper wrote, “A warm and fun man, Michael Pennington enjoyed the company of his fellow actors and took turns cooking meals for everyone, proving himself to be an accomplished chef.”
“He once liked to hand out jars of homemade quince butter,” they added.
