The Cannes Film Market is entering its 2026 edition with record registration numbers, with 16,000 market participants from more than 140 countries joining the broader Cannes Film Festival, which attracts 40,000 industry professionals.
Europe remains the region with the highest attendance overall, with the United States, France, and the United Kingdom retaining their positions as the top three countries in attendance. Asia’s momentum is shaping up to be the defining story of the year, led by this year’s Country of Honor, Japan. Japan has seen a nearly 50% jump in registrations, ranking it as the fifth most representative country in the market.
Sub-Saharan Africa is also increasing its influence, with emerging economies making their presence felt through a growing number of industry events, with Benin exhibiting at the Palais des Festivals and Guinea represented at Village International. Latin America is strongly represented by activities organized through Ventana Sur, Latin America’s main audiovisual market, co-organized by Argentina and Uruguay’s Cannes Film Market.
The 2026 market will feature 1,700 buyers and 600 exhibitors, with 250 industry events scheduled during the festival, including 1,500 festival and market screenings and 100 conference sessions.
“The Marché du Film is above all a place of activity, built around three key pillars: a global marketplace for film sales, a platform where projects are created and financed, and a hub where the industry shares knowledge and expertise to collectively shape the future,” said Executive Director Guillaume Esmior. “Now more than ever, Cannes is where the film industry is setting the course for years to come.”
