Diane Keaton’s daughter Dexter paid tribute to the icon on her first Mother’s Day since her death.
Dexter, 30, posted a nostalgic photo of the two together on Instagram on Sunday. The images include a photo of Dexter relaxing on the beach with his mother as a child, a photo from their wedding day in 2021, and a photo of his mother kissing Dexter on the cheek.
“This is my first Mother’s Day without you. I miss you more than words can express,” Dexter wrote.
“I miss her voice, her hugs, her presence, and everything that brought her home 🤍,” she continued. “Mom, I love you🤍”
Keaton died of pneumonia in October 2025.
“The Keaton family is so grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support we have received over the past few days on behalf of our beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11,” her family said in a statement to People magazine.
They continued, “She loved animals and was a staunch supporter of the homeless community, so making a donation to your local food bank or animal shelter in her memory would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her.”
Keaton was 79 years old.
The “Annie Hall” star was the mother of Dexter, whom she adopted in 1996, and son Duke, 26, who she adopted in 2001.
Keaton never married, and in her 50s adopted her children and raised them by herself.
She told Women’s Home Journal about her choice, “Motherhood wasn’t an irresistible urge. Rather, it was an idea I had been thinking about for a long time. So I took the plunge.”
She added, “I think I’m the only woman of my generation, and probably before that, to have been single all my life.”
On January 5th, which would have been Keaton’s 80th birthday, Dexter revealed that she and Duke got a tattoo in honor of their late mother.
Dexter’s tattoo reads “La Di Da,” a line from Diane’s 1977 film Annie Hall, and Duke’s tattoo reads “Strange Old World,” another quote from the same film.
Actress Sarah Paulson also unveiled a tattoo dedicated to Keaton on what would have been her 80th birthday, revealing that she had her initials “DK” tattooed on her wrist.
