Pete Davidson has a history of getting into serious relationships quickly, including getting engaged to Ariana Grande in 2018 after just a few weeks of dating. But even his friends were surprised when comedian and model Elsie Hewitt announced they were expecting a baby four months after their public romance.
The couple weren’t too surprised that their romance ended about five months after the birth of their daughter Scottie, but Davidson, 32, said she wanted things to work out.
“I was happy for them,” one source told Page Six. “They looked pretty strong” from the excitement of pregnancy.
A friend of Davidson’s said: “This has to be the most exciting time for him.”
However, the source added, “Maybe they clashed too much. Having a baby is difficult. No one can prepare for what happens after giving birth.”
Another source close to the couple revealed that “their issues have nothing to do with the baby,” and that there were signs of discord between them even before Scottie was born.
Hewitt, who previously dated Benny Blanco, Jason Sudeikis and Ryan Phillippe, was said to have been blindsided himself last week when he recently took the unusual step of asking for help on social media.
“I’m currently looking for an assistant/mother’s helper/nanny type/basically a right-hand person. If you’re qualified and serious, please apply here,” Hewitt, 30, posted on his Instagram Story on May 15.
She followed suit on TikTok, whispering in the video, “I have a baby to take care of.” “I have to work and earn money. I’m doing it myself, but it’s hard.”
Davidson’s “main priority right now is making sure Elsie and Scottie are taken care of, so everyone who knows them is completely baffled as to why she would post anything about not supporting him,” a source previously told Page Six.
Sources say becoming a father has been a lifelong dream of the “Saturday Night Live” alum. On September 11th, he lost his father, New York City firefighter Scott Davidson, the baby’s namesake.
A source close to Davidson said: “It’s something he’s always wanted and was really looking forward to,” adding that the split is a “sad situation for everyone.”
But one thing is very different for Davidson this time around.
The comedian, who has been very outspoken about his mental health issues including PTSD, depression, borderline personality disorder and substance abuse, has had his share of struggles in the past that coincided with the end of romances.
After his whirlwind five-month relationship with Grande ended, Davidson posted on Instagram, “I really don’t want to be on this earth anymore. I’m doing my best to stay here for you guys, but I don’t really know how much longer I can live,” sparking widespread concern and prompting him to undergo a medical check-up with the NYPD on “Saturday Night Live.”
Davidson was also in a treatment center around the time of his split from Kaia Gerber in early 2020.
In 2023, Davidson was with his then-girlfriend Chase Sui Wonders in February when he lost control of his Mercedes and crashed into his home in Beverly Hills. He entered a Pennsylvania health facility in July and broke up with the actress in August.
In 2024, he entered rehab again after divorcing actress Madeline Cline.
But officials say they believe Davidson is now in a stronger position. One reason for this is that Davidson is “committed to being a good father,” a source close to the couple told Page Six. “He’s been out of rehab (his last rehab) for almost two years. Things are going well. He’s working hard on his rehab.”
“He has a great team and people around him who really love and support him,” the friend added.
Hewitt, an up-and-coming actress, got her big break as a model when she appeared as a Playboy Playmate in June 2017, and has since gone on to work with brands such as Guess. That same year, Hewitt sued Philip, 45, for $1 million, accusing him of drunkenly assaulting her and throwing her down the stairs of his Los Angeles home.
Philippe strongly denied the accusations, and the two reached a settlement two years later.
Hewitt and Davidson met through mutual friends and had an instant chemistry, his friend told Page Six.
In March 2025, the two were spotted making out in the ocean off Palm Beach during a romantic vacation.
A few days later, she kicked off the relationship in earnest with an Instagram video of the “King of Staten Island” star wearing a bathrobe.
Their spring frenzy quickly accelerated and turned into a full-moon babymoon. In July, the two made a surprise pregnancy announcement.
A source said that although the couple had “differences of opinion,” there was hope that the baby would “strengthen their relationship.”
In December, the couple introduced Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson with a series of photos of them cradling their newborn.
“Our perfect angel girl arrived on December 12, 2025,” Hewitt posted on Instagram. “This is my best work to date and I am filled with love, gratitude and disbelief.”
“Forever Wu-Tang,” Davidson, who has previously been a comedian, commented.
While it’s unlikely that he and Hewitt will get back together, a source told Page Six that Davidson is “fully supportive” of her ex-husband and baby, financially, including “rent, living expenses, health insurance,” and with physical and emotional presence. He “adjusted his schedule to prioritize being in the city.”
“All he wants is for Elsie to be happy and in a good place,” the friend said. “He (Davidson) is a good guy. He’s passionate about not disrespecting women.”
Sources say he is in good spirits after Kevin Hart’s successful appearance, which premiered on Netflix earlier this week.
“It’s a shame it didn’t work out. He’ll make the most of it,” the friend added, noting Davidson’s determination to keep the peace. “He has thick skin and a head on his shoulders. He’s just focused on being happy and healthy, and he’s rooting for her (Hewitt) to succeed as well.”
