Martin Scorsese’s youngest daughter Francesca Scorsese has clapped back at internet trolls who make hurtful comments about her appearance.
Francesca, 26, shared in a TikTok video on Saturday that she received a barrage of hateful comments after reposting the news that she had been cast in Season 2 of Prime Video’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”
“These are some of the worst comments I’ve ever seen written about me,” she said, explaining that while she was used to being criticized as a “nepobaby,” the hate was on a level she hadn’t yet experienced.
“I know. I know the door is open for me,” she said of Scorsese being a father. “For example, I’m still trying to work, I’m still working hard, I’m still passionate, I’m creating and executing my work.”
“But if you’re going to be in someone’s video and ask for negativity, I think you’re a very, very sad person,” she continued.
Francesca repeated cruel comments made about her, including people calling her “fat” and “ugly”, comparing her to a “refrigerator” and calling her “Miss Piggy”.
“I know, I’m not the most beautiful girl in the world. I’m not the skinniest girl in the world either. I’m chubby, I know that. But what does that mean?” she asked.
Francesca said she had already deleted X after receiving negativity and bad comments on the social media platform, but now she feels TikTok is becoming the same.
“There are a lot of trolls and bots and people who are just trying to ruin someone’s day or make someone feel bad,” she said. “This is like losing someone’s life, your words have power.”
She said she has dealt with hatred for years because of her famous father.
“I also know that there is a greater presence in me than my father, and that it always overshadows who I am as a person,” she said. “But come on, guys. I just want TikTok to be a better place to feel like it used to be.”
Scorsese, 83, spoke about Francesca’s final years on SiriusXM’s “This Life of Mine with James Corden” in February 2024. Scorsese is survived by his wives, Helen Morris and Francesca, and his ex-wives, Laraine Marie Brennan and Julia Cameron, and daughters Cathy, 60, and Domenica, 49, respectively.
“It was extraordinary. I was 56 at that point, and my outlook on life changed,” Scorsese recalled.
“The other girls, we were younger and stronger, you know?” he added. “It was like some kind of special blessing. All of a sudden, all of my values and what I thought were important in life changed.”
It’s still unclear what role Francesca will play in Season 2 of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but Deadline reports that Francesca is expected to be part of another Mr. and Mrs. Smith pairing.
