Peabo Bryson, the hitmaker known for performing Disney hits such as the title song from “Beauty and the Beast” and “A Whole New World” from “Aladdin,” has died. He was 75 years old.
Bryson died Tuesday surrounded by his family, People reported.
Bryson’s family said in a statement that they have been “so touched by the outpouring of love, prayers and support from fans, friends and colleagues around the world.”
“Our hearts are broken but comforted by knowing how deeply loved Peabo was and how many lives were touched by his voice and generous spirit,” the statement continued. “His legacy and music will live on for generations to come.”
Representatives for Bryson did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Bryson had suffered a stroke two days earlier, on May 31st.
“Two-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and balladeer Peabo Bryson (who provided the voices for the Oscar-winning Disney songs ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘A Whole New World’) has suffered a stroke and is currently recovering,” his rep said in a statement obtained by People magazine at the time.
The statement continued: “At this time, the family requests privacy as they spend this very personal moment together. The thoughts, prayers, and love of friends and fans are welcomed and deeply appreciated.”
Bryson began his music career in 1976 and by 2018 had released 20 solo albums, five of which reached gold status. He has produced quite a few hit songs throughout his career and collaborated with many top artists including Roberta Flack, Natalie Cole, and Kenny G. Kenny.
His two Grammy Awards were for his performance in the 1992 Disney film “Beauty and the Beast” with Celine Dion and “A Whole New World” in the Disney film “Aladdin” with Regina Belle in 1993.
He leaves behind a wife and two children.
