Off Campus, a new romantic drama series about college hockey players, is the third most-watched debut series in Amazon Prime Video history.
Amazon said the series reached 36 million viewers in its first 12 days of streaming. It’s important to note that the company doesn’t publicly define what counts as a “viewer.” So someone who only watched a few seconds or minutes of an episode could be counted towards that total. But still, “Off Campus” can definitely be considered a success for Prime Video. According to Amazon, the only debut series to outperform this, even though the metrics are unclear, are “The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power” and “Fallout.” That means “Off Campus” outperforms such stalwarts as “The Boys,” “Reacher” and “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” (All series were compared based on viewership for the first 12 days of the first season.)
Among female viewers 18-34 alone, “Off Campus” debuted at No. 1 in Prime Video history. The series is poised to help Amazon maintain the viewership it grew through “Summer of a Cleaner.” Another romantic drama for teens and young adults this summer became a hit by the time its third and final season was released. According to Amazon, Season 3 of Season 3 reached 70 million viewers in its first 70 days, a 65% increase from Season 2’s 70-day total viewership. It was also Amazon’s No. 1 TV season of all time among women 18-34.
“Off Campus” stars Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli. Luisa Levy created the series and serves as co-showrunner with Gina Fattore. Both will be executive produced by Wyke Godfrey, Marty Bowen, James Seidman, Leanna Billings, and Neil Flaherty.
“Thanks to the fans who embraced Off Campus, Obsession is officially coming to Prime Video,” Peter Friedlander, head of global TV at Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement. “We couldn’t be happier to see such a passionate community rallying around Season 1, where creator Luisa Levy and co-showrunner Gina Fattore interpreted Elle Kennedy’s beloved story. When you earn trust and deliver to your audience, they show up, and they certainly did that with Off Campus.”
