When Martin Short reportedly called a friend to check on his daughter Katherine Short, she was tragically found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, leaving behind a suicide note.
According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s autopsy report, the comedian contacted a friend to check on his daughter after not hearing from her for more than 24 hours, TMZ reported.
Investigators said that when they entered Katherine’s home, a friend found a note taped to her locked bedroom door, which prompted them to call 911.
After police arrived, they forced their way into the bedroom, where they found Starr’s daughter’s body lying on the bed with a Glock 19 9mm pistol clutched to her chest.
The coroner’s report also claims that Katherine had previously attempted suicide using pills in 2017. She also had a record of mental illness and depression.
Representatives for Martin did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
As previously reported, Katherine passed away in February in an apparent suicide. She was 42 years old.
“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” a representative for the “Only Bill Murders” star, 76, confirmed to Page Six at the time.
“The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was loved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought to the world.”
Martin later addressed the death in a May interview on “CBS Sunday Morning,” saying it had been a “nightmare” for his family.
“But like my wife, we understand that mental health and cancer are both illnesses, and in some cases, they can be terminal,” Short added, referring to his late wife, Nancy Dolman, who passed away in 2010.
“And my daughter struggled with extreme mental health and borderline personality disorder for a long time and did her best until she couldn’t anymore,” Short added.
