Jio Studios and Aatpat Productions have announced the teaser and global release date of Indian filmmaker Nagraj Manjule’s ‘Khasaba’.
The Marathi biographical sports drama tells the story of Indian Olympic wrestler Hashava Dadasaheb Jadhav.
The film marks Manjul’s return to Marathi cinema after the National Film Award-winning film ‘Fandry’ and the 2016 hit ‘Sairaat’. This follows Amitabh Bachchan’s 2022 Hindi feature debut ‘Jhund’ and the Prime Video series ‘Matka King’ starring Vijay Varma which premiered earlier this year. Jio Studios is behind the Dhurandhar duology, the highest-grossing Indian film ever, and the highest-grossing Marathi film of all time, Raja Shivaji, and is co-producing it with Aatpat Productions.
‘Kashava’ centers on the rise of a wrestler from the traditional akhara, or wrestling mud pit, of Maharashtra to winning a bronze medal at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, becoming independent India’s first individual Olympic medalist. The teaser, released in theaters ahead of its digital release, depicts the world of competitive wrestling against the backdrop of newly independent India.
The film has music by composer Ajay Atul. The identity of the actor who plays Jadhav has not yet been revealed. The supporting cast includes Jitendra Joshi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Girish Kulkarni, Vaibhav Mangale, Chhaya Kadam and Ghazi Kulkarni. The cast also includes Vaibhav Mangale, Chhaya Kadam, and Ghazi Kulkarni, completing a film that combines Manjul’s storytelling instincts with the story of the country’s sporting history.
‘Khasaba’ is produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Ghazi Kulkarni and directed by Manjul.
“Khasaba” will be released in theaters worldwide on January 1, 2027.
