Tragic new details about James Ransone’s death have revealed that the actor did not leave a suicide note before taking his own life last year.
According to an autopsy report from the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office, Ranson said he needed to be taken to the hospital because he “wanted to commit suicide,” TMZ reported.
There was no note, but prescription drugs were found at the scene of death.
Ligature marks were also found on Ranson’s neck, consistent with his cause of death by hanging.
Officers who responded to the scene at the time said they found no signs of foul play.
Page Six reached out to the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office, but did not immediately receive a response.
“The Wire” star passed away in December 2025 in Los Angeles. He passed away at the age of 46.
He has two children, son Jack, 7, and daughter Violet, 5, with his wife Jamie McPhee, whom he married in 2017.
In the latest update, Ranson’s widow shared an Instagram post from May celebrating Jack’s seventh birthday and thanked friends and followers for their support during the difficult time.
She described Jack as “the most handsome, stubborn, funny, loving and strong kid,” adding, “We wouldn’t want it any other way. We love you to the moon!”
McPhee continued, “And to our friends and family, this truly takes a village. We love you all so much. Thank you for all your support, love, kindness, food, tears, and laughter over the last five months.”
At the end of her post, McPhee said that after losing her husband, she “finally understands that every day is a gift.”
“So this time we celebrate Jack together,” she added. “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
