Prime Video has released the first trailer for Blade Runner 2099 to commemorate the return of Ridley Scott’s sci-fi series nine years after the movie Blade Runner 2049.
Starring Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh and Euphoria breakout star Hunter Schaefer, Blade Runner 2099 is a limited series that follows the original Blade Runner and the 2049 sequel. 2049, directed by Denis Villeneuve, sees original star Harrison Ford return to the role of protagonist Rick Deckard, while Ryan Gosling continues Scott’s story as the replicant Blade Runner K.
In 2099, Yeoh plays Olwen, a replicant struggling with the end of her life, while Schaefer plays Cora, a human on the run from Blade Runner. In the trailer, Olwen and Cora are seen working together in the war between Replicants and humans. As the film draws to a close, Olwen tells Cora, “The old world is forever fighting to return. Humanity wants what was taken from it, but now it’s our time.”
The “Everything Everywhere All at Once” star will be joined by series regulars Dimitri Abold (“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”) and Louis Gribben (“Somewhere Boy”). Recurring guest stars include Caitlin Rose Downey (The Nun II), Daniel Rigby (Nell the Rebel), Johnny Harris (A Gentleman of Moscow), Amy Lennox (The Only Child), Sheila Atim (The Queen), and Matthew Needham (House of the Dragon).
Blade Runner 2099 was largely filmed at Barrandov Studios in Prague, Czech Republic, with additional production taking place in Barcelona. Film United was in charge of production in Prague.
Silka Luisa, known for her work on “The Shining Girls,” will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Ridley Scott, who directed the original Blade Runner, will serve as executive producer along with Scott Free Productions’ David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger. Jonathan Van Tulleken, known for directing two episodes of “Shogun” and “The Dope Thief,” will direct the first two episodes.
“Blade Runner 2099” premieres on Prime Video on November 25th. Check out the trailer below.
