Summer is back! Season 8 of Peacock’s Love Island USA welcomes host Ariana Maddix, narrator Ian Stirling and new single islanders looking for love.
Things officially begin with the arrival of marketing director and Georgia native Anya Harvey. She said she is looking for a husband and expects a ring by the end of the season, and the arrival of fellow Georgian Kenzie Annis, who graduated from nursing school the day before leaving for Fiji. She says, “It’s been a year and a half, so I’ve regained my virginity again.”
Then Melanie Moreno from Philadelphia/Los Angeles says she doesn’t use the term girl-girl. I’m not sure if the line “If you hear that shit, it’s a red flag” refers to the Season 7 contestants repeating that line midway through.
Rounding out the women’s group are Paralympic athletes Beatrice Hutz and Trinity Tatum. Hutz, a San Diego native who ran track and field, considers himself competitive, while Tatum, who quit his job at a hardware store to work on Love Island, jokes that he’s looking for a “golden retriever” type of guy in “talent recruitment.”
A sixth female contestant (Vasana Montgomery) was kicked off the show after a video surfaced of her singing along to a racial slur.
After everyone got acquainted, Madix also joined the group to do some good stuff. It’s about why they’re here. Moreno says she hasn’t had much luck romantically, but she has a lot of love to give. Tatum joins Harvey in finding a husband. Anise says she’s “not a roster girl” (which she admits is a Love Island plot). Harvey says he goes on a lot of dates, but he’s never satisfied with anything more. And Hutz has dealt with men who are insecure about their careers.
Bryce Detloff and Cynthia Rea were the first men to arrive. Rhea (like Hutz) runs track and field and is smart enough not to say she could beat Team USA athletes in a race. Rhea said her parents called her a “lady lover” and admitted she was one of them, saying, “It would be selfish not to spread the love.” Dettloff, a New York-based model who says she’s “sensitive and emotional” about the “aaah” sounds, says Annis calls her a “bastard.” “I’m not saying it’s bad!” she added.
Next, Zach Georgiou (Charlie Georgiou’s brother from season 7) appears and suddenly introduces himself as Nepo’s brother at Madix’s request. By the way, Georgiou, who is from Birmingham, “loves One Direction,” so the intro is “What Makes You Beautiful.” When it comes to women, he says he’s looking for “fun, cool American girls.”
Police officer Sean Reifel (who says he was called “Sexy Pants Cop” by civilians and his family) has revealed that he is the father! Papacita? Unlike Huda Mustafa in season 7, Reifel immediately told the group about his son and the fact that he had moved to Pennsylvania to support the mother of his child. Reifel will be joined by KC Chandler, a nursing assistant from California. Chandler likes to chase, but admits he wants to be a “lover’s boy.” He loves freedom, but will give it up for the right woman, FYI.
Maddix appoints them as the first 10 Islanders of the season and takes them directly to a multiple-choice answer compatibility test where the Islanders stand behind a door and each has an answer choice. If the door opens to more than one person, the contestant must kiss each person on the other side.
Questions ranged from favorite sex positions (Maddix asked participants why they chose that position). If you are interested in dogs, cats, or plants. Is it okay to check your partner’s phone? And if you came here looking for love, you’re divided into “no,” “maybe,” and “yeah!” – This obviously results in communal flirting and ensures that everyone gets kissed by all contestants of the opposite sex.
After the final round, the girls will choose which boy they would like to couple up with. Tatum picks Detloff, making them the first couple of the season. After the two kiss during each round of the blind game, Hatz takes aim at Reifel. Chandler ultimately does not support becoming a couple with Harvey after Leah chooses Moreno over her. And Anis becomes a couple with Giorgio.
The night doesn’t end there, as each pair wanders around to get to know each other, chatting about the Eagles, Georgiou’s “dark features,” Tatum and Detloff’s seven-year age difference, and country music that Hutz “would rather pick up another obstacle than listen to.” Afterwards, a debriefing session was held, divided into boys and girls.
Day two begins with Tatum saying he’s never had avocado toast (a blasphemy on Love Island), and Georgiou isn’t sure if he and Anise are “in the mood.” There were some intimate scenes between Lea and Moreno, but Detloff said he didn’t want to steal (Tatum’s) youth because he’s almost 30 and she’s 22.
Madix appears at night and calls the group to the fireplace. There, she reveals that each islander must decide whether to stay with their partner or start a new connection behind yet another closed room, standing on color-coded green and red dots, respectively.
Two new bombshells invade the villa and attempt to kiss the red dot contestant before the door opens to reveal the contestant’s selection. Gabriel Vasconcelos, demoted from his OG position to balance the numbers after Montgomery was demoted, ended up leading Tatum and Hutz out of Villa hand-in-hand, while Keida Reese-Bosse picked Georgiou and Detloff, leaving the rest of the contestants shocked and unsure. What happened?
