You won’t be able to find Minion words on Duolingo, at least not yet, but Minion words have been on everyone’s lips lately following the release of the latest movie in the series, Minions & Monsters.
It was only fitting that we asked the movie’s stars if they had mastered their Minion skills when we met them Sunday at the film’s world premiere in Hollywood.
Check out the video above to see Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, Jeff Bridges, and Allison Janney try to speak Minion language.
Minions & Monsters, the seventh film in the series, teams up with the alien Dort, voiced by Eisenberg, as the Minions become movie stars in 1920s Hollywood. Deutch will play Debbie, a suffragist who befriends Dort and the Minions. Bridges and Bobby Moynihan play the studio mogul brothers, while series veteran Janney plays Olvia, a museum guide who narrates the film.
“I lost my mind,” Deutsch told me about receiving the offer to star in the film. “I’ve been a fan of this series…for a very long time. It’s so fascinating. It transcends language. The idea that this work resonates with so many people and is loved all over the world, even though we don’t speak the language, everyone will understand it. They’re so cute. They’re so funny. I’m obsessed with them.”
Bridges said making the film was an “extension” of child’s play. “You come to the cool kids house and get all the cool toys and play with them,” the Oscar winner said.
“Minions & Monsters” is currently in theaters.
