The Versace jungle dress is back and Jennifer Lopez approves.
After a clip of star Mika Abdallah wearing the famous Versace jungle dress at the 2000 Grammy Awards went viral, the pop star praised Prime Video’s hit series “Off Campus” on X Monday.
In a scene from the show’s second episode, Abdallah’s character Allie Haze arrives at a costume party wearing a plunging green dress as Lopez’s “On the Floor” blares over the speakers.
“Oh my god, wait! It’s me!” Dean Di Laurentiis, played by Steven Cullin, unbuttons his flight suit and the “Top Gun” pilot, dressed as a “Top Gun” pilot, steps aside to join her, and she squeals over the music.
“I love this choux,” Lopez wrote on X Monday, while another user reposted the clip with the caption, “The chemistry was so crazy I was holding my breath for the whole scene.”
Last week, Abdallah told Betches UK how much work went into this look.
“It was unreal. They built it from scratch,” she said. “The first fitting was like, you put on this nude leotard, cut it, and pin everything up. It took like five fittings. It was insane. I was really taped up. I was ready to dance all night. And I did.”
Lopez can relate to the situation on the tape. She previously said that the team’s main concern at the time about the belly-button-baring dress was “whether my breasts would pop out on stage.” But in the end, he said, “There was no danger at all. I was stuck in there so there was no chance of an accident.”
The tropical print of Versace has become one of the most searched fashion pieces in the history of the internet, even inspiring the creation of Google Image Search.
Lopez gave the gown a second treatment in 2019, closing out Versace’s spring 2020 runway show in Milan with an updated version that revealed even more skin than the original.
Off Campus, a college romance series based on author Elle Kennedy’s best-selling book series, premiered on Prime Video on May 13th.
