Jennie Garth knew her marriage to Peter Facinelli was over when a couples counselor bluntly asked her why she wanted to be with someone who didn’t love her.
“That was the whole shock for the fans,” the “Beverly Hills 90210” alum revealed during a chat on “Armchair Expert,” released April 13.
“It was reverberating,” she added, “I’ll never forget it. It gutted me and I was like, ‘Oh no, no, no, it’s time.'”
Before the couple’s counseling session, Garth, 54, recalled that Facinelli had come to see her and their three daughters when they were separated on their farm in central California.
The two got into an RV, and “he told us he wanted a divorce,” Garth revealed, adding that Facinelli, 52, added, “‘Jen, you’re going to thank me for this one day.'”
The “What I Like About You” alum confessed that the comment “made me furious and angry.”
The former couple met while filming the TV movie An Unfinished Affair in 1995 and married six years later.
They have daughters Luca (28), Laura (23) and Fiona (19). Facinelli filed for divorce in March 2012, and the divorce was finalized the following year.
The actress, whose memoir I Choose Me will be released on April 14, revealed in a recent interview that after her painful divorce, she drank so much alcohol and took so many pills that she ended up in the hospital to have her stomach pumped.
She then checked into Canyon Ranch Rehabilitation Center.
“I realized that my light had really dimmed,” Garth told People magazine about the horrific incident and its aftermath. “I wasn’t putting off the good vibes. I could see that when I looked in the mirror. I could see the negative impact that kind of sadness and anger was having on me.”
The DWTS alum previously detailed the end of her and Facinelli’s marriage in her 2014 memoir, Deep Thoughts from a Hollywood Blonde.
