Robert Pattinson recently spoke to GQ magazine as part of the magazine’s summer cover story on “The Odyssey” and revealed that he set up a home gym to build up muscle ahead of filming “The Batman: Part II.” The actor had doubled down on his fitness schedule after some viewers of the 2022 film The Batman found his superhero-like physique overwhelming.
“(Everyone) was like, ‘That didn’t go well at all.'” I trained every day,” Pattinson joked. “Even after that, I still look like I don’t work out. I worked out twice a day, like at 3 a.m.. I think it was because I said in an interview[that working out was uncool]. I wanted to look cool!”
Pattinson returns to the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in Matt Reeves’ long-awaited sequel, which also stars Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson. The filmmaker teased that production on The Batman: Part II was imminent last month by posting a first-look photo of the Batmobile speeding down a snowy street. When Pattinson spoke to GQ, he didn’t know any details about the sequel’s filming schedule.
“I heard from a stuntman the other day, and he said, ‘Oh, it’s been 11 weeks of nights.'” I’m like, “Excuse me?” I’m like, ‘No one’s even sending me a schedule,”’ Pattinson said.
Training for The Batman: Part II probably came easier for Pattinson after filming Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, telling GQ that it was one of the most exhausting sets he’s ever worked on. The actor filmed many of his scenes with Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland at Castello Santa Caterina on the island of Favignana in western Sicily. The filming location required cast and crew members to walk along trails 900 feet in the air every day. Helicopters were used for those unable to walk, and large equipment for film production was also transported.
Nolan told the magazine: “During the shoot, the crew had to start at the bottom of this road and move up to 900 feet at a pace they could manage for two weeks on location.”
Pattinson recalled sitting in a hotel bar on a day off from filming. “And then[after the set was over]people were streaming in and I’ve never seen anyone look so exhausted. And this is only a third of the way through. We started a third of the way through the movie, and by that point they’d already been to[two]countries, and people just had this look on their faces… I mean, by the end of each day, people were hurting.”
