How to Eat Fried Worms star Blake Garrett died surrounded by drug paraphernalia, a full autopsy report has revealed.
According to TMZ, the actor, who died in February at the age of 33, was found unresponsive in his modest home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The newspaper reported Monday that Garrett was found next to his bed, near crumpled dollar bills, a lighter and burnt aluminum foil.
In July, news broke that the former child actor’s cause of death was an accidental fentanyl overdose.
A report from the Oklahoma State Office of the Chief Medical Examiner stated at the time that an alcohol test was negative.
In addition to swelling on Garrett’s brain, the report also noted lesions in various stages of healing from shingles.
His mother previously told TMZ that Garrett was rushed to the hospital a week before his death and was diagnosed with a rash characterized by painful blisters, according to the CDC.
She said her son was in “severe pain” and speculated that he may have been self-medicating.
Notably, Garrett had been sober for three years at this point.
He was best known for his plug role in 2006’s How to Eat Fried Worms.
The film is based on Thomas Rockwell’s book of the same name, published in 1973.
Garrett co-starred with Luke Benward, Harry Eisenberg, Adam Hicks, Ryan Margarini and Alexander Gould, and even insisted to The Oklahoman that “everyone got along great on set” despite playing a bully’s sidekick in the film.
Prior to filming, Garrett participated in Barney’s Colorful World International Tour from 2003 to 2004.
His prior acting experience included multiple local theater productions.
After Garrett retired from acting, he led a private life.
