Carnie Wilson had a “fangirl” moment with Christy McNichol, decades after she retired from acting.
“Totally fangirling!!!” the 58-year-old singer recently gushed on Facebook. “Chris (Christy McNicol) was a part of my youth. I adored her in her movies…particularly ‘Little Darlings’ and ‘The End.’
A member of Wilson Phillips told McNicol, who left the entertainment industry in 2001, “how much her movies meant to (her) and (her) best friends.”
Carney said in a July 20 upload that she and a friend were “just talking about her and how special she is at 63 years old.”
Carney called McNicol a “kind lover” and concluded that she was “certainly loved.”
She took a rarely seen selfie with the star, and McNichol was all smiles in a zip-up jacket and white T-shirt.
Carney wore a patterned top and black beanie hat in the cozy shot.
MacNicol was a two-time Emmy Award-winning child star who played Letitia “Buddy” Lawrence on Family from 1976 to 1980.
Her other notable television appearance was as Barbara Weston in “The Empty Nest,” a spin-off of “The Golden Girls.”
She is best known for playing Angel in 1980’s Little Darlings and Polly in Only When I Laugh the following year.
McNicol received a Golden Globe nomination for the latter.
Upon retiring from the entertainment industry, McNicol released a statement saying, “My feeling was that it was time for me to play my biggest role – to play myself! I have to say it was the best thing that happened to me. So many of my fans are disappointed that I am not acting right now. However, some may not understand that the process I am currently undertaking is necessary and essential to my personal well-being.”

“I was on the big stage from the age of eight until I was 30,” McNicol explained. “I left show business for a variety of reasons, but the biggest one was my curiosity to see what else was out there in life.
“This stage of my life is very good,” she continued. “My home life is happy and calm. I love to sing. I also love to travel and see the world. One of my favorite places is Hawaii. I love everything about Hawaii and may eventually move there part-time.”
When asked about his plans to return to a career in Hollywood, McNicol joked, “Never say never.”
