Meryl Streep’s estranged husband Don Gummer is reportedly “at peace” with her romance with Martin Short.
A source told the Daily Mail on Thursday that the sculptor’s “perspective has changed” because “it has been a long time since they were no longer a couple.”
Notably, the ex-lovers separated in 2017 after 45 years of marriage and four children.
“Had his relationship with Martin begun immediately after the breakup,[Gummer]probably never would have recovered,” the paper claimed, adding that “this would have taken a toll on[him].”
A source claimed, “Now that enough time has passed, he is truly at peace” and has “accepted the end of his marriage.”
The 79-year-old artist and Streep, 76, have reportedly “reached a place of mutual respect, but it definitely didn’t happen overnight.”
A representative for Streep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Gunmar and the Oscar winner’s breakup was kept secret for years, with Page Six confirming their split in 2023.
At the time, a rep for the duo told Us, “They will always care for each other, but they have chosen to live apart.”
In early 2024, speculation began swirling around Short, the 76-year-old “Sophie’s Choice” star.
However, the actor’s rep insisted that the co-stars were “just very good friends and nothing more.”
Short doubled down later that month on Bill Maher’s podcast, Club Random, telling listeners, “We’re not a couple.”
In the meantime, he and Streep continued to go out, eating dinner and going to Broadway shows, and they were seen holding hands on the Season 4 premiere of OMITB in August 2024.
Fellow cast member Steve Martin only fueled the rumors with sharp social media posts suggesting he was a third wheel to Streep and Short.
By March 2025, multiple sources confirmed to Page Six that the two had been dating for “more than a year.”
A source claimed that the pair were “completely surprised” by the “unexpected” romance, saying: “Meryl couldn’t help but fall in love with Martin. He’s a gentleman, always makes her laugh and is an all around positive person. She loves being around him.”
We confirmed that their “friends and family, including their children, fully approve of their relationship and think they are adorable together.”
Earlier this week, Short and Streep proved their romance is still alive with an intimate London night date that was described as “tender” by an eyewitness.
