Variety reports that Helena Bonham Carter will be leaving the cast of Season 4 of The White Lotus.
HBO said in a statement: “While filming for Season 4 of ‘The White Lotus’ was just underway, it became clear that the character Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter never matched on set.” “The role has since been reconsidered, rewritten, and is expected to be recast in the coming weeks. HBO and producer Mike White are saddened to not be able to work with her, but remain passionate fans and very much hope to work with this legendary actress on another project soon.”
Bonham Carter was announced as the next cast member in January. In addition to Bonham Carter, the full cast for Season 4 includes Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonté Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Fila, Ari Greiner, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani, and Nadia Tereszkiewicz. Additional cast includes Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Frida Gustafsson, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer, and Laura Smet.
Season 4 takes place in France, including Paris and multiple locations along the Cote d’Azur. Series creator Mike White will write, direct, and executive produce. David Barnado and Mark Kamin will also serve as executive producers.
Last week, HBO announced that filming had officially begun on the French Riviera.
The official synopsis reads: “Season 4 follows a new group of guests and employees at the White Lotus Hotel during a week at the Cannes Film Festival.” Hotels featured include Airer Château de la Mésardière as the White Lotus du Cap and Hôtel Martinez as the White Lotus Cannes. In addition to Cannes, the season will also be filmed in Saint-Tropez, Monaco and Paris, but the story remains set on the Cote d’Azur.
In television, Bonham Carter has been nominated for five Emmy Awards, including two for “The Crown,” as well as “Merlin,” “Live from Baghdad,” and “Burton & Taylor.” She has been nominated for two Oscars during her career, once for Best Supporting Actress for The King’s Speech and once for Best Actress for The Wings of the Pigeon. She has been nominated for nine Golden Globe Awards. Her other film work includes “Fight Club” and the “Harry Potter” series.
