Hayden Panettiere canceled his appearance at Creep IE Con at the last minute.
The convention, which will be held July 11 and July 12, announced the news on Instagram on Friday, telling potential guests that the “Scream” star, 36, is welcome to appear on another show in the future.
“Hayden Panettiere will be unable to attend this weekend due to an emergency. We look forward to having her appear on our upcoming shows,” the statement reads.
In her place, “Lolita” star Dominique Swain was announced as the new guest to appear on Saturday and Sunday.
A representative for Panettiere told Page Six that Hayden canceled the appearance “due to a private family matter regarding the health of an elderly relative.”
Panettiere was originally scheduled to appear alongside his Scream 4 co-star Nico Tortorella in a sort of star reunion.
Additional appearances this weekend include Christopher Lloyd, Mira Sorvino, Tara Reid, Billy Zane and Jamie Campbell.
Panettiere joins a list of other stars who have similarly declined the competition, including Tori Spelling, another scream queen who starred in the second installment of the “Scream” series.
Christina Ricci, John Carroll Lynch, and Karel Stricken have rescheduled their appearances to later dates.
Before becoming a horror film star, Panettiere (who recently released her memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning) began her acting career as a child actress, appearing in commercials before appearing in the soap operas One Life to Live in 1994 and Guiding Light in 1996.
During a panel discussion in West Hollywood, California in May, the actress detailed her “brutal” experiences as a child actress.
“For the first time, I had an identity crisis,” Panettile said. “When I was 12 years old, I remember exactly where I was, standing in my bedroom.”
“It’s the cruellest experience. It’s like sitting in a cold, cold room and only the people in this line are judging you,” she said.
