Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones will star in Disney’s upcoming animated film “Hexed,” it was revealed at Disney’s CinemaCon presentation for theater owners on Thursday.
“Hexed” is a new original film that “tells the story of an eccentric teenager and her Type A mother who discover that her strangeness is actually a hidden magic that takes them into a world where magic is at their disposal.” It will be released in theaters this fall on November 25th.
Steinfeld received an Oscar nomination for “True Grit.” Her credits include “Sinners,” “Pitch Perfect,” “The Edge of Seventeen” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” Jones was a member of the cast of “Parks and Recreation” and appeared in “I Love You, Man,” “The Muppets,” “On the Rocks,” and “Celeste and Jesse Forever.”
Josie Trinidad, who was the story director for “Ralph Breaks the Internet” and “Zootopia,” will make her directorial debut with Jason Hand, who co-directed “Moana 2” and served as the story director for “Encanto.” Produced by Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster Jones.
Disney is building on the record-breaking success of last year’s “Zootopia 2,” which became the highest-grossing animated film in history, beating “Inside Head 2” with $1.7 billion worldwide. It also became Disney’s biggest animated film in history, surpassing Frozen 2, and became the highest-grossing film of 2025. However, original animations like “Hexed” have proven to be more unstable. “Hoppers,” released this spring, was a hit, but other non-sequel films, such as “Elio” and “Luca,” have struggled to attract audiences.
During a presentation to exhibitors in Las Vegas, Disney released the first footage from the live-action films “Moana,” “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” “Toy Story 5” and “Avengers: Doomsday.”
