After seven years, three seasons, and 26 episodes, “Euphoria” is officially coming to an end. Sam Levinson, creator, writer and director of the HBO show, made the announcement in a conversation with hosts Joe Coscarelli and John Caramanica on the New York Times music podcast Popcast. HBO also confirmed Levinson’s announcement to Variety.
So the season 3 closer, titled “In God We Trust,” was actually the series finale. Read Variety’s recap of this episode and interviews with supporting star Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaye and guest star Colman Domingo here.
This news comes as no surprise, considering Zendaya, who stars in the series, said in an interview that she believed the show would end after season 3. Even before that, it had long been understood that the HBO drama would not continue. A full four years passed between seasons 2 and 3, and Zendaya and several of her co-stars have become full-fledged celebrities in that time, with schedules full of blockbuster movies. As reported by Variety in 2024, production on Season 3 faced significant delays for that reason and others. Levinson, who spoke with Coscarelli in a Times interview before the season premiere, said he writes “every season like it’s the last” and was hesitant when pressed about season four. “I don’t know,” Mr. Levinson said. “Right now, all I want to do is hang out with my wife and kids, read Elmore Leonard books, and watch ‘Mrs. Miniver’ again.”
According to the official logline, “Euphoria” follows “a group of high school students navigating drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love, and friendship.” In Season 3, after the time jump, they “struggle with the virtues of faith, the possibility of salvation, and the problem of evil.”
In addition to Zendaya, the cast also includes Hunter Schaefer, Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Sidney Sweeney, Alexa Demme, Maud Apatow, Martha Kelly, Chloe Cherry, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Toby Wallace, and Coleman Domingo. Sam Levinson created the series and serves as executive producer along with Ashley Levinson, Sarah E. White, Kevin Turen, Ravi Nandan, Drake, Adele “Future” Noor, Ron Leshem, Dafna Levin, Hadas Moses Lichtenstein, Mirit Toovi, Tomira Yardeni, Yoram Mokadi, and Gary Lennon.
