My Dearest Stranger, the Chinese crime mystery romance series that has amassed more than 270 million views on Youku since its premiere in February, has signed a distribution deal covering Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Macau, as well as a global air rights deal.
Handled internationally by Hishow Entertainment, the series ranked #1 on multiple daily charts during its initial local broadcast. Hishow has attracted continued interest from buyers in Southeast Asia on the back of its performance.
The series centers on the truth hidden beneath a seemingly ideal marriage, layering psychological suspense on top of romantic drama and building toward a reckoning that upends the central relationship.
The cast is led by Bosco Wong (Queen of the News, Golden Brother, Heart of Greed), Wang Ruodan (Caught in the Web, Dead End), and Yuan Hong (Nirvana in Fire, Black Dog). Directed by Golden Horse Award winner Lin Yusheng. The title marks Wong’s first TV series since winning the TVB Best Actor Award earlier this year.
“‘My Dearest Stranger’ has connected very well with Chinese audiences, and we are very encouraged by the response from overseas buyers,” said Levin He, head of international sales at HighShow. “What draws viewers into this romance is the unsettling question at the heart of every intimate relationship: Can you really trust the person you’re sleeping next to? There are secrets in almost every relationship, and the fear of what might be hidden beneath the surface is universal. These emotional and psychological elements helped fuel the series’ success.”
