Subscribers to Charter Communications’ high-end Spectrum TV plans now have access to Warner Bros. Discovery’s Discovery+ at no additional charge.
Of course, much (but not all) of Discovery+’s content is already available through WBD’s HBO Max, and is now available to those same Spectrum TV customers. For example, Discovery+ includes 63 seasons of Food Network’s food competition series “Chopped,” while HBO Max currently only has 10 episodes of the latest season.
Discovery+ offers programming lineups from networks such as HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery, and Animal Planet. Content includes reality shows such as “90 Day Fiancé,” “House Hunters,” “Chopped,” “1000 Pound Sisters,” “Gold Rush,” “Expedition Unknown,” “Ghost Adventures,” “Ghost Brothers” and adventure and documentary shows such as “Planet Earth,” as well as lifestyle programming such as “Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines.”
Eligible Spectrum TV customers can activate ad-supported Discovery+ for $5.99 per month at no additional charge. Customers can also upgrade to the ad-free version of Discovery+, which sells for $9.99 per month, by paying the difference of $4. Spectrum customers without a qualifying TV plan can purchase Discovery+ (and other streaming apps) a la carte using the Spectrum App Store.
Charter’s lineup of apps bundled with Spectrum TV plans is only available to residential customers on TV Select plans and above. These are ad-supported versions of the following streaming services: Disney+/Hulu Bundle, ESPN Unlimited, HBO Max Basic With Ads, Paramount+ Essential, Peacock Premium, AMC+, ViX, Tennis Channel, and Fox One.
In total, these add up to “more than $125 per month in retail streaming value,” Charter claims. However, Discovery+ and Spectrum TV bundles with other streamers aren’t exactly “free.” At Charter, these wholesale costs are built into the overall price of our services.
“The introduction of Discovery+ expands the value Spectrum TV provides to our customers by giving them more choice and flexibility in what and how they watch,” said Tom Montemagno, Vice President of Programming Acquisition, Charter’s Spectrum. “We bring live TV and streaming together to meet our customers wherever they are, allowing them to enjoy Discovery+ and other popular apps with built-in cost savings without having to manage separate subscriptions.”
“By making Discovery+ available as part of Spectrum TV Select and available for purchase a la carte to customers without a traditional TV plan, we expand the reach of our world-class portfolio and make it even more convenient for fans to watch their favorite home, food, true crime, relationships and lifestyle programming as part of their existing Spectrum experience,” added Scott Miller, President of Networks and Streaming Distribution, Warner Bros. Discovery.
