Variety exclusively reported that screenwriter William Yu has signed an agency contract with Buchwald. Mr. Yu continues to represent Bellevue and Jackoway Austin.
Yu recently worked on the Peacock series adaptation of the film The Burbs and will be returning as executive story editor for the show’s recently announced second season.
He is no stranger to work at Peacock and NBCUniversal, as he was also a writer on the limited series Fight Night: Million Dollar Heist, starring Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, Taraji P. Henson and Don Cheadle. He previously worked on the staff of the NBC medical drama “Brilliant Minds,” starring Zachary Quinto.
In feature films, Yu wrote the romantic comedy It Was You, which was produced by Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu and appeared on The Blacklist. He is also currently working on a feature for Korean studio CJ ENM.
Yu started as an advertising strategist. He quit his job after launching #StarringJohnCho, a viral social media project that photoshopped Cho’s face onto the hit movie’s poster. The project was picked up by news outlets including the New York Times, BBC, and CNN, sparking a debate about Asian representation in Hollywood.
