Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children Zahara and Maddox have placed a newspaper ad as the next step in officially retiring their father’s last name.
According to court documents obtained by Page Six on Monday, Zahara, 21, published a petition in the Los Angeles Daily Journal to remove the actor’s last name once a week for four consecutive weeks.
Her notices were published in newspapers on June 16, June 23, June 30 and July 7, the filing states.
The newspaper advertisement also invites those who oppose the changes to submit a written objection before the final public hearing.
Zahara currently has a court hearing scheduled for September 28th to request a judge’s ruling on the motion. If no one objects, the judge can approve the request.
As for Maddox, court documents obtained by Page Six show the 24-year-old’s petition was published in the same publication as his sister’s petition on June 10, June 17, June 24 and July 1.
Publicly publishing the petition in a newspaper is one of the hurdles required for a legal name change in California.
As Page Six previously reported, Zahara filed a legal request last month to change her name to Zahara Jolie instead of Zahara Jolie-Pitt.
She also opted out of using her father’s last name when she graduated from Spelman College in May.
When she took the stage to receive her diploma, it was announced that she was Zahara Marley Jolie.
Maddox filed a similar application, changing his name from Maddox Chiban Jolie-Pitt to Maddox.
Chivan Jolie — In May, cited the reason as “personal.”
In February, he unofficially dropped his father’s last name from the credits of his mother’s latest film, Couture.
In 2021, Us Weekly reported that Maddox “does not use Pitt as a last name on illegal documents, instead using Jolie,” while noting that the “Maleficent” actress “does not support” her son’s decision to do so.
The former couple have six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivian.
In 2024, his youngest daughter Vivian also appeared to diss her father while working with her mother on the Broadway production of The Outsiders.
At the time, her name was listed as “Vivienne Jolie” on the show’s flyer.
Their child, Shiloh, was the first to make things official by dropping Pitt from his last name on his 18th birthday.
Entertainment Tonight reported in June 2024 that the teenager “hired her own lawyer and paid for her own.”
All six children reportedly distanced themselves from the ‘F1’ star after he and Jolie split in 2016.
Page Six exclusively reported last month that son Pax maintains a close relationship with his Pitt side of the family despite their complicated family relationship.
Despite having a close relationship with her father’s family, Pax “doesn’t have much of a relationship with Brad,” another source exclusively told us.
