Angelina Jolie’s “Without Blood” has been acquired by Brainstorm Media.
Written by Jolie Baricco and Alessandro Baricco, “Without Blood” is based on Baricco’s novel of the same name. Starring Salma Hayek Pineau, Demián Bichir, and Juan Minujín, the film explores universal truths about war, trauma, memory, and healing, set in the aftermath of a nameless conflict. The film had its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
“Without Blood” is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on September 18th.
“Alessandro Baricco’s ‘Without Blood’ examines universal truths about trauma, memory, and healing,” Jolie, who also produced the project, said Monday morning. “The emotional intimacy and openness that our cast and crew brought to this film was extraordinary and a thrill to have together. We hope that Salma and Demian’s brave performances will inspire the types of conversations Baricco was looking for when writing the novel.”
Produced by Jolie with Lorenzo Mieri, Lorenzo De Maio and Simone Gattoni, Without Blood is a co-production by Fremantle North America and The Apartment, a Fremantle company, in association with Jolie Productions and De Maio Entertainment.
“Having the opportunity to work with Angelina Jolie on Without Blood was an incredibly enriching experience,” said Hayek Pinault. “Her emotional intelligence and searing sensitivity bring to life a story about how the wounds we inflict shape us and the strength it takes to continue living. We are thrilled that Brainstorm will bring this visually stunning tale of revenge, guilt, and the long journey to our own humanity to U.S. theater audiences.”
Hayek Pinault and Jolie previously co-starred in 2021’s The Eternals.

The acquisition was negotiated by Alex Peters on behalf of Brainstorm Media and sold by Creative Artists Agency and Fremantle.
“Angelina Jolie has created a nuanced and unflinching recognition of the human cost of war through the lens of Western revenge,” said Michelle Schwartzstein, CEO of Brainstorm. “The film’s appeal for empathy and understanding, supported by two great performances by Salma Hayek Pineau and Demián Bichir, has unfortunately never been more relevant today and will resonate deeply with theatergoers.”
Jolie’s directorial credits include Blood and Honey, Unbroken, and First They Killed My Father.
“Angelina Jolie’s compelling adaptation of Alessandro Baricco’s novel embodies our shared passion and determination to tell global stories,” said Andrea Scrosati, Fremantle’s Group COO and CEO Continental Europe. “‘Without Blood’ is a prime example of what can be achieved when we embrace creative freedom and partnership. We look forward to bringing this film to U.S. audiences.”
