Bill Lawrence and Warner Bros. Television are planning to adapt Stephen Lowery’s new novel, Take Me With You, into a series, Variety exclusively reports.
The book was just published on May 19th by Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House. There are currently no writers attached to the project. Lawrence will executive produce alongside Jeff Ingold and Lisa Katzer through an overall deal with Doozer Productions and WBTV. Laurie and Rob Weisbach will also serve as executive producers. WBTV is the studio.
The book’s official description states that it “tells the story of abandoned college professor Jesse Del Ruth.” After 30 years together, Jesse witnesses her husband Norman get out of bed late one night, walk into the Joshua Tree backyard, walk into a strange light, and disappear. Jesse tries to piece together his new reality as he struggles to make sense of Norman’s disappearance. Is he expected to wait patiently for a partner who may never come back? Or is this an opportunity? Reinvention? ”
Laurie has published seven novels so far. In addition to Take Me With You, he is also known for his books, including Lily and the Octopus, The Editor, The Guncle, The Guncle Abroad, The Dogs of Venice, and The Celebrants. He won the Thurber Award for American Humor for “The Guncle.”

Lawrence’s current WBTV programming includes Apple TV’s “Shrinking,” “Ted Lasso” and “Bad Monkey,” HBO’s “Rooster” and Netflix’s upcoming “I Suck at Girls.” He is also the executive producer of the revival of ABC’s “Scrubs” produced by 20th Television.
