Proof of Concept, the Netflix-backed accelerator program supporting women, transgender and non-binary filmmakers, founded by Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, Emmy-nominated producer Coco Francini and Dr. Stacey L. Smith, has announced its second batch. The eight filmmakers selected are Taylor Bakken, Jessica Barr, Azmahan Bukerat, Rachel Goldberg, Jessica Kozak, Alejandra Lopez, Sam Mandic, and Olivia Peace. Each selected project will receive $50,000 to create a short film designed as a proof of concept for a larger feature or series. Filmmakers also receive creative mentorship and industry access. Mike Stave, the former CEO of local television station Group Tegna, resigned in March when Nexstar announced it had struck a deal with a smaller rival. However, the Nexstar and Tegna merger is currently embroiled in antitrust complaints from state attorneys general and DirecTV, and Tegna has appointed a new CEO to run the company for the time being. Patrick Paolini will become Tegna’s chief executive officer on June 1. He will be responsible for Tegna’s day-to-day operations, revenue-generating business strategy, local journalism and production, and growth initiatives. Paddington Bear has found a new writer to come up with its next big screen adventure, and it looks like it has secured a director as well.
