Focus Features has released the trailer for the upcoming historical drama The Uprising starring Andrew Garfield.
The film’s official logline reads, “Andrew Garfield plays the legendary leader of a ferocious rebellion against the tyranny of King Richard II. As war rages across England, he assembles a people’s army to confront the king’s power in a fight for justice and survival.” “The Uprising” takes place in the aftermath of the Black Death, during a time when King Richard II imposed brutal taxes on his subjects to finance the Hundred Years’ War.
Other cast members include Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman, Katherine Waterston, and Skye Yan.
“Jason Bourne” director Paul Greengrass wrote, directed and produced “The Uprising.” Jason Blum, Gregory Goodman, Joanna Kaye, Joe Neuloter, and Lars Sylvest also served as producers.
Garfield, a two-time Oscar nominee, most recently starred opposite Claire Foy in the fantasy film The Magic Faraway Tree, which has already been released in the UK and will open in US theaters on August 21st. His other recent credits include After the Hunt, We Live in Time, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Tick Tock Tick Tock Boom! and “Tammy Faye’s Eyes.”
Greengrass’ latest project was the disaster thriller “The Lost Bus,” starring Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera. His other directorial credits include “News of the World,” “22 July,” “The Green Zone,” “Captain Phillips,” and “United 93,” for which he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Director.
