HBO Max veteran Pia Barlow has been hired as Amazon MGM Studios’ new head of original series marketing.
In Barlow’s new role, which he will begin on August 3, the executive will oversee all marketing efforts for Prime Video’s original series in the U.S. and internationally.
Barlow will report to Sue Kroll, global head of marketing for movies, series and brands at Amazon MGM Studios. Mr. Barlow’s new role mirrors that of Stephen Bruno, the studio’s vice president of film marketing, who also reports to Mr. Kroll.
“Pia brings incredible expertise and experience gathered over many years across all genres of film and television, and I can’t wait for her to meet and begin working with you all,” Kroll said in a memo to employees Friday announcing Barlow’s hire.
Most recently, Barlow served as head of original marketing for HBO Max, where she led campaigns for “The Pit,” “Euphoria,” “House of the Dragon,” “Hax” and HBO’s upcoming television adaptation of “Harry Potter,” among others.
Prior to her role at HBO Max, Barlow worked at Netflix in marketing for series such as “Orange is the New Black,” “Master of None,” “Making a Murderer” and “Queer Eye,” while growing the streamer’s international original marketing strategy.
Barlow began her career at HBO in 2003 working on marketing campaigns for “Girls,” “Boardwalk Empire” and “Silicon Valley.” Since then, she has added roles such as vice president of marketing for 20th Century Fox Films and executive overseeing global creative and social media marketing campaigns for Netflix’s nonfiction and children’s and family originals.
