Chase Stokes and Kelsey Ballerini reportedly split after almost three years of dating, just two days after he wrote her an affectionate birthday post.
According to people, the breakup is not due to a lack of effort from both the “Outer Bank” star and country singer.
“They gave it all and tried to do everything they could to make it work, but in the end they couldn’t,” a source nearby the couple told the outlet. “It’s going to happen.”
The two appeared to be still a couple on Friday. Stokes wanted Ballerini’s happy 32nd birthday on Instagram.
“You keep saying you’re not excited about 32, but id says I’m looking forward to this more,” he wrote along with happy photos of two spending time together.
“Happy birthday my love ❤️,” he added.
Ballerini’s last Instagram post came on Thursday when she posted a carousel of Stokes-free photos and memes.
“The last week of being 30 was fun,” she wrote.
She suffered a mental breakdown, posted a woman’s meme while wearing sunglasses, and joked about her being on the phone. The text reads, “After I have a mental breakdown, I text my friend. But how do you do with you?”
Both Ballerini and Stokes representatives did not respond immediately to page 6’s request for comment.
The two first sparked dating rumors in January 2023. Stokes brought photos of the two closer to Instagram while watching the National College Football Championship together.
A month later, he posted a photo of her kissing him.
Since then, they have participated in multiple red carpet events together and supported her in November 2024 when they showed their PDA at the 2024 CMA Awards.
In April, Ballerini is working on their relationship with her love of going to therapy with Stokes.
“I’m really seeing love now, in effect. Somehow it’s my favorite version,” she told people. “There was really no example of what a solid relationship might look like in a developmental age. I learned the hard way.”
“Now, the version of my love I found, it’s stable, it’s human, and we’re working on it,” she continued. “That’s honestly the sexiest thing for me, like, ‘Hey, do you want to go to therapy? Let’s go to therapy.’ ”
She also gushed about the two of them bringing out the best from each other.
“You’ll be a mirror for each other,” she told the outlet. “He helps me see the best about myself and vice versa.”
“We’re also showing each other what we want to do better,” she added.
