Don’t destroy anything that doesn’t go anywhere.
The Saturday Night Live comedy trio consisting of Ben Marshall, Martin Helihee and John Higgins was reunited for the first time in Portland on Friday night since “SNL” broke up the group with a major cast shakeup. However, according to a passionate trend from Higgins, the group has no plans to stop playing together.
When they opened a live show, they ironically asked the audience, “Is there something going on this week?” and “something in the news?” I think one audience member is likely to successfully yell something in the trio and refer to the “SNL” news. Higgins then replied, “Forever PDD, baby!” Marshall backed him up and added “what he said.”
After Four Seasons, which produces digital shorts, the group was split up with “SNL” after Marshall became an official cast member. Herlihy remains a member of the “SNL” writing staff, and Higgins left the show to pursue other ventures as an actor.
“I love these boys… this is a new chapter, but I won’t be quitting working together any time soon,” Marshall wrote on Instagram after the “SNL” shakeup was announced. “I can’t believe how lucky I was to be part of this show. I’m excited to pursue acting opportunities that will be announced soon, but today I’m grateful for everything we had to do.”
They did not establish Don’t Destro in 2017 after Marshall, Higgins and Herlihy met as NYU students. They started out by posting sketches on social media early in the Covid-19 pandemic and doing live stage shows. They officially joined “SNL” as writers in the 47th season.
