Prince William and Kate Middleton are told by their eldest son, Prince George, that they will “delay” if he one day become king of England to protect his childhood.
Royal biographer Robert Lacey leaked parenting tactics for her 12-year-old son and Prince of Welsh in an interview with people published Thursday.
“(George) had a really normal childhood period,” the author told the magazine.
Lacey claimed William was “late” to tell George to rule his fate “until the last possible moment.”
“It shows special care and consideration,” Lacey said.
Lacey suggested that William be careful with his choice of words so that he doesn’t feel the pressure surrounding royal expectations.
“When William tells George about something like this, I imagine him using words like “destiny” rather than “duty.” There is a sense of being trapped in “duty.”
William, 43, is on the continuous boundary of the throne after his father, Charles III, was crowned by the cor on May 6, 2023.
Experts speculate that William is approaching the king after his father revealed he was diagnosed with cancer last year.
Sources say William argues that George could award the Prince of Wales title if the child does not complete the school before becoming the next heir.
“They would want to focus on having freedom before giving him the royal title,” a palace source told the magazine.
Another royal author, Robert Hardman, has expressed that William is committed to raising a future king, just like his own role as the future monarch.
“William is as serious as he takes his role as future king as he takes his role as future king seriously, and that’s the key,” Hardman said. “His comprehensive priority is to make sure they enjoy it, not fear it.”
William and Middleton share their daughter, Princess Charlotte (10) and their seven-year-old son, Prince Louis, but are united in the idea of raising children in a more modern way than the previous royal family.
For example, they lost their royal tradition of sending their children to single-gender schools, and sent George to a coeducational day school.
“It’s because William wants to do things in a more modern way, and he wants to have all three kids in the same school,” said royal writer Bedel Smith. “It’s a new direction. It’s a groundbreaking royal.”
However, parents reportedly are considering sending George to Eton College, the all-boys boarding school where William was a student.
