Audiences were surprised when Ryan Reynolds showed up at Comic-Con during the Marvel Studios presentation on Saturday. He showed up wearing a gray denim suit instead of his usual red suit.
A fan wandering around Comic-Con taking pictures with what appeared to be a Deadpool cosplayer later realized that it was actually Reynolds, and was happy to take selfies with anyone who stopped him.
Reynolds posted a video of her outfit, confirming that she was able to walk the floor incognito. “Fans got Deadpool off the ground years ago. Yesterday, 10 years after the first movie and just a few years after ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ we join with all of you whose unabashed dedication has brought so much joy to this world. I felt so lucky to be on the DCC floor. No handlers, no security, no ropes. Thank you to everyone who met me who was not just cosplaying but building the world.”
The video also shows Reynolds walking into the Marvel presentation, with Robert Downey Jr. calling out to him and saying, “Who’s this guy with a sword or something?”
Reynolds responded, “Some people have been listeners for years, some are calling for the first time. I think this is a very expensive way to announce a movie. When are you going to start filming?”
Over the weekend, Reynolds confirmed that “eventually” another Deadpool movie will be made. However, it could revolve around “significant cuts” of the character from the comics.
“There are some really deep cuts that I think are missing in the movie,” Reynolds said. “There’s definitely some stuff that we love that[Deadpool co-creator]Fabian[Niciesa]has written that’s incredible, and that our other friend and great comic book writer, Gerry Duggan, has written. That’s something we can incorporate. But there are things coming down the line. Eventually, you know, we’re going to have another Deadpool movie that’s going to be released remotely. So it’s going to be great.”
Following the huge success of 2024’s Deadpool and Wolverine, Reynolds told Sunday Today in April that he had already begun writing a script for Deadpool’s screen return, but said the antihero would not be the film’s main focus.
“It’s been written to some extent, but I don’t think we’re going to put him under center again,” Reynolds said. “He’s a supporting character. He’s a great guy in the group.”
