Meghan McCain has applauded trolls who called her “old and ugly” and body shamed her.
“I’m normally an armadillo-skinned person, but I’ve gotten a lot of comments about how ‘old and ugly’ I look now,” the former “View” host said on Wednesday’s episode of the “Citizen McCain” podcast.
“I’m 41 years old…I’m aging. I’m aging. I’ve gained even more weight because I had three kids,” she continued, referring to her three children Liberty, 5, Clover, 3, and Ransom, 6 months, whom she shares with husband Ben Domenech.
“I look different because I don’t have my hair and makeup done professionally every day,” McCain elaborated, adding that she would “rather spend time” with her children than get her hair and makeup done every now and then.
The backlash surfaced after footage of McCain and co-host Miranda Wilkins speaking about New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani went viral earlier this week.
The mother of three thought the people who left negative comments about her appearance had never watched the podcast before. But the explanation surprised her.
“Forcing people to have that (opinion) is cruel,” McCain acknowledged. “This is the first time people have reacted like, ‘Oh, Meghan looks so much older.’ I’m so much older.”
The podcaster, whose father is the late Sen. John McCain, said it’s unfair to be constantly compared to her younger appearance.
“I’m no longer 5 years old when my father is running for the Senate. I’m no longer 22 when my father is running for president,” Meghan said. “I’m no longer a 32-year-old working at The View. I’m almost 42.”
The TV personality vowed to viewers that he would “continue to age.”
“I’m not going to look at it the way I watched ‘The View,’” she said. “I think we’re all going to have to come together and agree that we’re going to continue to age.”
Wilkins said, “We haven’t had Botox, we haven’t had a thread facelift, we haven’t had Ozempic.”
Duchess Meghan quipped, “It’s attractive, but I won’t be participating[in Ozempic].”
The author jokingly apologized for not having “professional hair and makeup” done every day and not being “able to undergo cosmetic surgery or injections.”
“But one thing I can promise you is that Miranda and I will continue to bring you real feelings,” Meghan said, calling her platform a “real show” by “real people.”
“I may be a nepo baby like my mother, but I’m a real person. I don’t live like that,” she told listeners, adding, “I’m going to continue to look like a code keeper.”
Meghan pointed out that those who are on the same page simply need to “accept” it.
