The first look video of the mystery horror feature “Bisikan Desa Grinsing: Whispers of Fatima” has been released and the film will be released in theaters in Indonesia in September, producers Mandela Pictures and Oceanus Media Global (OMG Studios) have announced.
The story centers on Heasty, a young woman searching for her missing father, but she finds herself drawn into the horrors surrounding the restless spirit of Fatima, which is said to have haunted the isolated village of Desa Grinsing for generations.
The clip shows Hesti, played by Agnini Haq, meeting the ghost Fatima, played by Fatma Nadi, for the first time.
The film, directed and written by Evander Tejaskmana, is a trilateral co-production between Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. This is one of the first Indonesian horror films to use virtual production techniques and be shot using LED volumetric stages. Rather than filming on location or using traditional green screens, the production recreated the foggy passageways and supernatural atmosphere of the haunted village of Desa Grinsing, using high-definition LED walls to display a photorealistic digital environment in real time.
“I am honored to be entrusted with a project that utilizes virtual production technology,” said Tejuskumana. “Making ‘Bisikan Desa Gringsing’ was a new challenge not only for me, but also for the cast and almost every department involved. Fortunately, Mandela Pictures and OMG Studios are a great team and their expertise helped us overcome all obstacles. I hope audiences will experience the fruits of their labor when they see this film in theaters.”
“Playing Hesty was my first experience working on a virtual production,” added Haku. “On the one hand, it was exciting because you could create multiple locations within a single stage. But it also required a completely different acting approach. It challenged me to develop new techniques and ultimately gave me an opportunity to explore another dimension of my art.”
The ensemble cast includes Surya Saputra, Kiki Narendra, Iskak Kivano, Hasti Putri, Nina Tamam, Iyan Darmawan, Akun Gege, and Mian Tiara. Currently in the final stages of post-production, Bisikan Desa Gringsing will be released in Indonesian cinemas on September 24th, followed by Malaysia, Singapore, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Producers are Manoj K. Samtani, Deepak M. Samtani, Lakman G. Samtani, Nick GC Tan, Chan Pui Yin, and Yogi Arifiandi. The production was supported by Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Studio Film Office (SFO) and Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture. OMG Studio’s virtual production stage is located at Iskandar Malaysia Studios (IMS), a Khazanah state aid facility in Johor, Malaysia.
