Amazon MGM has signed a first-look deal with Mercedes Ron, furthering its already highly successful partnership with the best-selling author of global blockbusters for Prime Video.
Ron, who broke out on Wattpad, is the author of the “Culpables” trilogy of YA romantic fiction, whose Spanish-language film adaptations have been seen by more than 100 million viewers worldwide. The series was soon adapted into English as “My Fault: London” and “Your Fault: London” (the third, “Our Fault: London”, has just finished).
The announcement comes in a week where half of Prime Video’s top 10 most-watched Prime Original movies worldwide are adaptations of Ron’s work, and the Culpables series has dominated the charts.
Ron’s relationship with Amazon MGM Studios now extends to multiple book series and a YA romance universe called “House of Ron.” The first movie in the DiMello trilogy, “Tell Me Softly” (Dimelo Bajito), was released on Prime Video last year, and the second and third installments are in the works. Next up for release will be “Drawn Together” on September 9th, while the US Amazon MGM studio team is developing “30 Sunsets to Fall in Love” (30 Sunsets to Fall in Love) from the “Bali” series, which will be the first US adaptation of Ron’s work following the success of the “My Fault” trilogy in the UK. As part of the first-look deal, Ron will serve as executive producer on all of the above films and future adaptations. This gives Ron the opportunity to adapt IP by other authors with the attention of Amazon MGM Studios.
The first-look deal was announced today at an event in Los Angeles by Nicole Clemens, vice president and head of UK and international original production for Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. Clemens was speaking ahead of Obsessed Fest, an immersive, day-long fan experience that brings viewers face-to-face with the stars, creators, and worlds behind Prime Video’s most popular young adult titles, including Your Fault: London. Ron will be appearing at tomorrow’s event, as well as Your Fault: London stars Asha Banks and Matthew Bloom.
“Mercedes Ron is an extraordinary talent whose story has captured the hearts and imaginations of fans around the world. Drawn Together will be released this September and we can’t wait to share it with our fans. Mercedes is already on Amazon “It’s part of the MGM Studios family, and it represents our continued commitment to expanding the House of House,” said Clemens. Ron”
Ron added: “Working with Prime Video and the Amazon MGM Studios family to bring my story to the screen has been a great partnership. I look forward to bringing more of my story to readers around the world through this continued collaboration and am excited to serve as executive producer on the upcoming film adaptation.”
Ron’s books have sold more than 6 million copies worldwide, been translated into 26 languages, and released in 50 countries. Her upcoming novel, Drawn Together, is the first in a Marfil bilogy and will be published on August 4th. Ron is repped by Joanna Castillo and Tom Ishizuka of WME and Writers House Literary Agency.
