Spoiler alert: This post contains spoilers for “The Limits of Whiskey,” episode 8 of “Dutton Ranch,” currently streaming on Paramount+.
The ending of last week’s “Dutton Ranch” was outrageous. Beulah (Annette Bening) suffers a heart attack or stroke, triggered by an emotional Carter (Finn Little) who gets drunk and destroys a taxidermy at the Ten Petals Gala. Will Beulah survive? Will Carter be punished? Will Rob Will (Jai Courtney) use this opportunity as a power grab? Find out this week!
Wow, do we have to take Beulah away in a helicopter? Her health concerns must have been very bad! Oh, Carter got drunk and fell off his horse. It wouldn’t be much fun to ride in vain! Wow, Carter is throwing up at the horse! Poor horse! I can’t believe Rip (Cole Hauser) and Beth (Kelly Reilly) aren’t more mad at Carter! Had I done less, I would have been punished much worse… That being said, this is some solid tough talk from Beth… good parenting! Will Rip take Carter to 10 Petals for work the next morning? Not sure if he’s welcome…he passes out to Everett (Ed Harris), who’s waiting for Beulah at the hospital. Oh, damn, Beulah is laying the law: “Robert William, you’re really weak. So I’m leaving the ranch to you. It’s not your prize, it’s your protection.” Robwill’s furious face when Beulah told him the real situation was pretty amazing. I’m tired of Carter’s neon colored vomit. On the way to the ranch, thanks to Rip and Azul (JR Villarreal) for feeding the dangerously hungover Carter just the right amount of poop. You only harass those you love! I know it’s not necessarily the drama we’re expecting, but I love the little moments of understanding between Beulah and Beth, in this case, connecting beyond being mothers of boys. It adds a much-needed dimension to both characters without seeming too saccharine. Beulah, I know you love Robwill in your own way and are trying to change the heir to keep Joaquín (Juan Pablo Raba) and the family intact, but he sucks. Can’t I kill him or something? I love Everett’s cowboy poetry. “If you are, I’m ready to take one last ride with you.” Austin (Sterlin English) is a really bad guy. Hey, just leave now – or stay here and shut up! Carter, stop acting like a baby. (PS: Oh, and apparently it hurt when he fell off the horse!) Beulah and Everett seem to have a wild sex life. Good for them! Beth degrading Carter was great. Wait, where is Carter going? And whose truck is that? Joaquin, you’re playing with fire by taking Rob Will’s gun to the police…Is Joaquin really going to abandon his family? Sounds impulsive…Does Carter want to be a cop? why? Is Austin telling Beth and Rip all the secrets of the ten petals? Hmm! No, Beth and Lip aren’t going to run a business that runs an illegal Mexican cattle operation that falsifies all Border Patrol documents. Oh, what darkness will Joaquin’s father bring to the ranch?
Until next time, Dutton ranchers, try not to let your horses throw up!
